CUSTOM SWIRLS CURLS AND TWIRLS
A very popular design feature of modern Illustrations is the swirl. Creating them by brute force is not only a tedious method but will also yield a very inconsistent and rough finished product. Here is an example of the possibilities for the Swirls, Curls and Twirls:

Obviously the above example is complex but the tutorial below will demystify the creative process and give you insight into the techniques necessary for creating Illustrations such as the Loyalty Card Illustration that I was contracted to create for Natura New York II.

PIZZA EXPRESS - MEMBER CARD ILLUSTRATION
Please click on the image below to view a larger version:
I was commissioned to create this illustration for Pizza Express. The client wanted their Reward Card to illustrate the feeling of an old time train ticket. I modeled the textures, block print effect and muted tones after actual 1800's steam engine tickets. The clients corporate color was lime green. And the train is the clients logo.

HOPE CHURCH - SEARCHING FOR HOPE ILLUSTRATION
Please click on the image below to view a larger image:
I was commissioned to create this illustration for the Hope Church campaign - "Searching for Hope?" We took a photo of a gentleman, a magnifying glass and a thumb print and created the illusion of the Magnifying Glass enlarging his eye. Although simple, the impact is precise and the double meaning delivers a powerful message.

HOPE CHURCH - SEMINAR ILLUSTRATION
Click on the image below for a larger view:
I was commissioned to create this illustration for Hope Church. I created a scene from the story of Jesus and his sermon on the mount. Three layers of silhouettes gives the illusion of a crowd while a soft gradient allows each layer to stand out from the one behind it. The Sermon on the mount is a well known story so the statement "He said what?!" is intended to make you question what you might hold as truth.
